NEW YORK CITY -- Brightbox Inc. reports that it has launched an owner-operator program to widen the availability of its self-service mobile device charging fixture. The first enterprises to adopt the new program report that the system has wide appeal to prospective locations.
The Brightbox Mark 3 Charging Platform, which can be actuated by a major credit card or proprietary medium, offers six locking compartments. Each gives the consumer access to the three most common power connecting cables for smartphones and is equipped with a 10" interactive touchscreen interface. This display is designed to serve as a strong brand-messaging platform, offering video and slide show capabilities to deliver direct sponsor messaging, conduct surveys, convey brand offers and publicize promotions.
The company has been marketing the Brightbox charger since 2011, and it has been adopted by airlines, universities, professional sports organizations and large hospitality clients. The appeal is that it allows worry-free mobile device charging, freeing the user to do something else. The customer simply inserts a card, which unlocks one of the compartments. After connecting the appropriate cable, the user closes the door, which locks while the phone charges. The patron simply swipes the card again upon returning, to unlock the door and retrieve the now-recharged instrument.
Brightbox often is deployed in conjunction with a proprietary card, so locations can offer device charging as either a complimentary or paid amenity. Exclusive offers are also available through branded keycards specifically tailored for customers, events and activations.
The new owner-operator program makes the Brightbox Mark3 system available to companies wishing to offer worry-free recharging to their clients. According to Brightbox senior vice-president of sales Don Rossi, it is an ideal way for operators in automated retail businesses such as vending, amusement and music, automated teller machine and other point-of-sale self-service businesses to expand the services they offer and generate added income.
"ROI from advertising revenue as well as amenity fees is immediate and impactful," Rossi observed. "Owner-operators can also attain quick capital payback and see profits from short-term kiosk rentals for conferences, festivals and other events."
Now in its third generation, Brightbox is said to offer the safest fast charge possible at optimized manufacturer-recommended rates of up to 2.1A. The UL-listed and agency-certified station ensures the physical security and data integrity of phones being charged; and it's PCI-compliant, with an encrypted card reader to meet the highest standards for safety and security. It offers retractable charging cables and chambers that can accommodate a wide range of mobile devices, including the latest large-screen smartphones ("phablets").
Brightbox's initial owner-operators include Best Bars, Oaklawn Investment Group and Downtown Charge, all of which are enhancing the guest experience at a variety of restaurants, bars, casinos and nightclubs across the country.
"We're pleased with the consistent revenue stream that the Brightbox charging lockers generate," said Ted Lanzi of Best Bars in New York City. "The ability to charge phones quickly and securely gives our locations added appeal to customers who love the convenience. It's another reason for them to frequent the bars we serve."
"We love having Brightbox in our venues," said Christopher Sharplin of OIG. "Guests stay longer and staff isn't saddled with babysitting phones."
