Bloomington, Indiana, has installed a free contraception vending machine, providing accessible reproductive and sexual health products to the community. Located at Gather: Handmade Shoppe & Co, at 116 North Walnut Street, the machine offers essential items such as emergency contraception, condoms and menstruation products, according to a WBIW report.
This community-driven project is a collaborative effort involving the Indiana Task Force, Midwest Access Coalition, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard and other dedicated community members. The initiative aims to increase access to vital health resources in a convenient and stigma-free manner, addressing barriers like financial constraints, transportation issues and social stigma.
The installation in Bloomington follows similar successful initiatives in Indianapolis and Lafayette, marking a significant step in expanding access to reproductive health supplies across Indiana. A launch party is scheduled for Friday at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate the community resource.
