Birmingham bakery launches dessert vending machine, nationwide shipping

Customers with sweet tooths in Birmingham can now grab cupcakes and cakes at any hour thanks to a dessert vending machine installed outside K&J's Elegant Pastries in Uptown.

The bakery, known for its elaborate milkshakes and cupcakes, introduced the machine to serve customers even when the store is closed, according to a Bham Now report. "We'll have 24 hours of K&J's, so when we're closed on Sundays and Mondays and in the evening, people will be able to walk up and purchase cupcakes and slices of cakes. I'm so excited," founder and chef Kristal Bryant told the news outlet.

The idea came after Bryant said she turned away dozens of customers during a private party on a Sunday, sparking her husband's suggestion to add a vending option.

In addition to the machine, K&J's has launched nationwide cupcake shipping. A 12-cupcake "customer favorites" box, priced at $109, features flavors such as Strawberry Cheesecake, Banana Pudding, Red Velvet Brownie and Ooey Gooey Butter Cake.

The vending machine operates 24/7, while the storefront remains open Tuesday through Saturday.
