Carvana's plan to erect a car vending machine tower in Skokie, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, has been sidetracked out of concern for preventing birds from being killed, according to a report in therealdeal.com.

The company will need to reapply to build the machine near a forest preserve, according to the report.

The village approved the project in February 2022. In May, it told the company to halt work on the site until it resolved a state decision to suspend its dealer's license. The matter was resolved recently.

The village director of community development told the company it needs to reapply for approval since six months have passed since the project was approved. Since that time, the village has passed a law requiring stronger bird strike mitigations.
