The 2016 Big Buck World Championship is heading to Austin, TX, Nov. 4-5, where the Belmont will host Play Mechanix Inc.'s event of the year. Highlighting this year's event are high-profile sponsors, including Jägermeister, Buck Wild Snacks and Crystal Creek Distillery. Additionally, this year's competition will be streamed live on Twitch.tv, which is aggressively promoting the event to the online gamer community.
"We're delighted to have sponsors like Jägermeister," said Jessica Petro, who heads Play Mechanix Inc.'s social media and public relations. "Jäger represents the most well-known sponsor we've ever had and is a favorite among many of our competitors."
According to Petro, this year's event is expected to draw a record number of qualifying players from the U.S., Canada and Australia. About 5,000 players from around the world frequented their local online Big Buck HD machines from May to September to qualify for a shot at the $100,000 prize pool. That pool includes $20,000 for first prize and a chance to compete for the trophy affectionately called "Pappy's Jug."
"Driving players into locations to play Big Buck HD is the goal of the qualifying season," said Play Mechanix founder George Petro. "This year, frankly, even we were surprised at the lengths players went to compete."
Austin's Belmont is located on West 6th St. in the heart of city's lively music and nightlife section. The newly remodeled venue features enough room to accommodate 1,000 guests. As with past events, the organizers are striving to keep the lighthearted party atmosphere. In past years, as they proudly noted, even those who did not receive a prize left the competition feeling as if they attended a great party.
The Big Buck World Championship, which started in 2008, celebrates the people dedicated to playing Big Buck Hunter. Prior venues for the annual competition were Chicago, New York and Minneapolis. To qualify, players are required to participate in a worldwide tournament that takes place in the months leading up to the event. Players can qualify at any Big Buck HD machine that is connected to the CoinUp online system.
