CHICAGO -- Play Mechanix Inc. is now regularly streaming a Big Buck Hunter webcast on Twitch.tv. Buckin' Around is a half-hour streaming show scheduled for Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. (CST). Set in a talk-show format, the program is hosted by Play Mechanix's Jessica Petro, Callum Fletcher, Mike Colesworthy and Jessie Gillmeister. It made a soft debut on April 21.
According to company officials, Buckin' Around is intended to strengthen the bonds in the Big Buck Hunter player community and attract new players. "Buckin' Around will give the Big Buck video-gaming community more content all year round," Petro told Vending Times. "We designed it as an informational channel for the players with news about qualifiers and the Big Buck World Championship, along with interviews, raffles and giveaways."
The show is produced at Play Mechanix's suburban Chicago headquarters on a set that replicates a classic American tavern. Viewers can participate in real time during the live broadcasts either through the online gaming channel's Twitch Chat option or by means of individual Twitter accounts set up for the hosts.
Buckin' Around, Petro noted, offers the game's enthusiasts the same kind of light mood they have come to expect from sanctioned competitions, as well as the grassroots player community events. Not coincidentally, the show has arrived in time for the World Championship Big Buck qualifying matches, which began on May 1.
Play Mechanix released Big Buck Hunter, an arcade hunting game that uses pump-action gun controls, in 2000. It has hatched numerous sequels and updates, the latest being Bighorn Sheep. Play Mechanix, which develops and markets coin-op games with its sister studio Raw Thrills, began the Big Buck Hunter World Tournament in 2008.
