The British Columbia Institute of Technology has introduced a MediMart health vending machine at its Burnaby Campus, according to an Education News Canada report. The machine provides students, faculty, and staff convenient access to everyday health essentials.

Located on the second floor of the NW4 building, the machine expands the role of campus vending beyond snacks and beverages to support basic wellness needs.

MediMart is designed as a self-serve pharmacy vending solution, offering commonly used over-the-counter products such as pain relievers, cold and flu remedies, allergy medication, throat lozenges, eye drops, bandages, menstrual products and vitamins.

The selection is aimed at students who may feel unwell during the day or need quick access to medication between classes without leaving campus.

The machine operates like a traditional vending unit, with products visible behind glass and card payment accepted at the point of purchase. A notable feature is its built-in pharmacist support option: users can scan a QR code on the machine to connect with a licensed pharmacist via WhatsApp for text-based guidance on medication use or concerns. This support is available daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m..

BCIT officials note that MediMart addresses the realities of busy student schedules by reducing barriers to accessing basic healthcare items on campus. The addition reflects the school's broader efforts to enhance student well-being through practical, technology- enabled services.
