Port Lincoln Airport in South Australia has added a premium seafood vending machine, giving travelers 24-hour access to some of the Eyre Peninsula's local seafood before they leave the terminal.
Installed by local providore The Fresh Fish Place, the machine offers a curated selection that includes Coffin Bay oysters, southern Bluefin tuna, Spencer Gulf Kingfish, pickled octopus, Port Lincoln squid and various smoked seafood products, all packaged for easy transport.
The initiative is the result of more than a year of planning and collaboration between The Fresh Fish Place and the Lower Eyre Council, according to a report at South Australia news site Glam Adelaide. The goal is to create a convenient, innovative way to connect visitors directly with the region's world-class seafood while reinforcing Port Lincoln's reputation as a premier seafood destination. By placing the machine in the airport, the partners aim to turn travel time into an opportunity to showcase local produce.
According to The Fresh Fish Place manager Craig McCathie, the vending machine appeals particularly to travelers looking for last-minute gifts or wanting to take home authentic Port Lincoln seafood sourced directly from local fishermen. The 24/7 availability also strengthens the link between the airport and the region's fishing industry.
While the concept may be new to many travelers, seafood vending has precedent on the Eyre Peninsula, with Oyster HQ launching a similar oyster vending machine in Coffin Bay in 2021. With Port Lincoln's global seafood reputation continuing to grow, the airport vending machine is seen as a natural extension of the region's identity and a memorable welcome for visitors.
