Two Atlanta-based organizations are partnering to help families facing financial or housing instability stay together with their animals during times of hardship. The collaboration aims to reduce one of the most common pressures pet owners face when money is tight, according to an 11Alive News report.

A free pet food vending machine has been installed behind the register at Goodr's Community Market in Edgewood. The initiative is led by Atlanta Dog Mom, a nonprofit focused on affordable, accessible pet care for seniors, low-income families and others under financial stress. According to the organization's leadership, job loss and rising living costs are frequent reasons families seek help to avoid surrendering their pets.

Goodr's is a tech-enabled, nonprofit grocery model designed to address food insecurity by providing free or low-cost access to food in a retail-style environment.

The vending machine allows families to pick up pet food as needed. Built-in technology tracks inventory levels in real time and notifies the nonprofit when restocking is required.

Both organizations view the partnership as part of a broader community effort to address rising pet care costs and basic needs. Atlanta Dog Mom is continuing to seek donations to keep the vending machine stocked and available to families in need.
