BANNING, CA -- Arcade Expo kicks off on Saturday, Jan.17. The Museum of Pinball, the event's organizer, will pack a 40,000-sq.ft. venue with classic arcade games, tournaments, speeches and other activities that run through Sunday, Jan. 18.

Highlighting the show will be an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the "most people playing pinball simultaneously." The organizers have more than 550 classic and modern pins set on free play to break the record set last year at the Texas Pinball Festival, where an impressive 272 fans played at the same time. The synchronized flipping record attempt will happen on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Author and pinball historian Roger Sharpe is among the speakers at this Arcade Expo. Sharpe spent decades in the pinball world, including a long stint at Williams Electronics. His lavishly illustrated 1977 book, Pinball!, is a classic.

Twin Galaxies' founder Walter Day will also be lecturing. A legend in coin-op, Day is well known for his appearance in documentaries highlighting the coin-op industry videogame recordkeeping.

And industry documentaries -- including "The Space Invaders: In Search of Lost Time" and "The Video Craze: Where Were You in 82?" -- will be shown on movie night. Directors of both films will be on hand to sign copies of their movies.

Arcade Expo takes at the Museum of Pinball, which located at 700 South Hathaway, Banning, CA 92220.
