Aramark lays off thousands more due to COVID-19

Aramark, one of the world's largest convenience services and contract foodservice providers, has laid off thousands of employees at professional sports facilities in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, according to a pennlive.com report. The announcement follows an earlier report about layoffs in Kansas City.

The company filed Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notices with the state labor and industry department that it is laying off 1,080 employees at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, home to the Philadelphia Phillies; 721 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, home to the Philadelphia 76ers and the Philadelphia Flyers; 626 at Pittsburgh's PPG Paints Arena, home to the Pittsburgh Penguins; 599 at Pittsburgh's PNC Park, home to the Pittsburgh Pirates and 199 employees at Philadelphia's Pennsylvania Convention Center.

The company said it has experienced unprecedented disruption due to COVID-19.

The company filed similar notices for the other venues including 152 employees at Philadelphia's Lasalle University; 143 employees at Philadelphia's Drexel University and 112 employees at East Stroudsburg University.
