Arabica coffee futures ended January at $2.35 per pound compared to about $1.30 last year, ending 2021 76% higher than 2020, the largest one-year gain since 2010, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

Most of the price rise has been attributed to weather, although higher shipping costs have also contributed to the rally.

The Baltic Dry Index, which measures global shipping and freight rates, jumped 62% in 2021, the biggest gain since 2016.

Pricing pressures also include labor issues and 7-year high energy costs.
