Animal rights activists have criticized Kyodo Senpaku, a whaling company, for selling whale meat in a vending machine, according to a Yahoo News report.
Whale meat sales have fallen in Japan on account of concerns about animal welfare as well as changing consumer tastes.
Astrid Fuchs of the Whale and Dolphin Conservation global charity called the vending machine a "cynical sales ploy."
Japan, Norway and Iceland are the only nations commercially hunting whales within their own seas. The whaling fleet withdrew from global waters five years ago in response to lawsuits and criticism from activists.
