Alleghany Avenue Elementary School in Lindenhurst, New York is fostering a love for reading and good character with a unique approach: a book vending machine, according to a Patch report. Students can earn access to the machine, stocked with free books, by demonstrating positive behaviors aligned with the school's PAWS program (Practice Respect, Accept Responsibility, Work Hard, Safety Matters).
This initiative, supported by the Alleghany PTA, aims to make reading fun and rewarding while encouraging good choices. To celebrate the launch, every student received a free summer reading book.
