Alaska passes ATM surcharge law on cross-border transactions

Alaska's Governor Mike Dunleavy signed state legislation authorizing ATM surcharges on international credit/debit card transactions at retail ATMs throughout the state. The new law, known as HB 44, was passed unanimously by the state legislature and goes into effect immediately, according to a press release by the National ATM Council.

The effort to enact the legislation has been a multi-year effort supported by Alaskan Representative Dan Ortiz (House Dist. 36), Senator Josh Revak (Senate Dist. M), Representative Sara Hannan (House DIst.33), G.Games-Vending, Alaska ATM Service and The National ATM Council.
