The Root C coffee machine from New Innovations Co. Ltd. at a Tokyo rail station uses artificial intelligence to prepare coffee to customer specifications, according to a timeout.com report.
Located outside the Shinbashi Station ticket gates, the coffee uses beans from half a dozen different roasts and can be served both hot and cold.
Users download the Root C app, tap single coffee, then select the type of beans they want, hot or cold and the time of their desired pick up.
The customer picks it up from inside a designated locker, which they open using a password from the app.
Root C can suggest a brew based on an initial questionnaire and from the customer's past orders.
Users can purchase a limited subscription for eight cups a month or an unlimited subscription to order as many coffees as they like, with the first month for free.
