An artificial intelligence enabled salad vending machine called Salad Stand in Tokyo offers a variety of salads, according to a Japan Today report.

According to Nobuaki Arai, chief executive officer of Kompeito, the company conducted a trial installation of the glassfront machine in November 2020 and went into full-scale operation in November 2021, and now plans to expand into commercial facilities and office buildings.

The fully automatic machines can accept cashless payment and uses artificial intelligence to reduce food loss.

The AI sensor at the top of the machine measures the number of passersby and those who stop in front of it. The AI analyzes the data, including the expiration date of the salads to allow the company to adjust the number of salads to be restocked as well as the timing of price reductions.
