The Abilene recovery center in Abilene, Texas has secured a grant to fund a vending machine that distributes free Narcan to the community 24/7, according to a Big Country Homepage report.

The Abilene Recovery Council researched locations in the community and settled on placing its Narcan vending machine in front of a used bookstore that sees a lot of foot traffic. Organizers chose the space because they believe it will reach the most people who need it, as it is within walking distance from many unhoused communities.

"Within walking distance for a lot of our un-housed neighbors and a lot of people who are living in this area. It's a very easy access to them. We wanted to make it as accessible as possible. If this gives them the opportunity then everything is worth it, and we saved a family and a person's life. We want everyone to be a big part and a positive impact on our community, so why not save everyone's life," Cindy Frazier, program director for the Abilene Recovery Council, told the news outlet.
