Four states have banned single-use plastic bags and at least 414 local ordinances related to plastic bags have been passed in 28 states and the movement is gaining momentum.

It's imperative that vending, micromarket and office coffee service providers know the rules in their own jurisdictions and keep abreast of what may be coming down the pike.

The Wall Street Journal provided an informative overview in a June 22 article titled "Plastic Bans: What You Need to Know."

The paper emphasized that the U.S. has no federal legislation prohibiting single-use plastics and that recent mandates are not one-size-fits-all. Additionally, a number of state legislatures, including those in Oklahoma, Tennessee and North Dakota, have attempted to preempt anti-plastic laws by prohibiting cities from passing their own restrictions.
