REDONDO BEACH, CA --- New from Wedges/Ledges here is the Turbo high-speed ticket dispenser, designed to increase operator revenues by accelerating game play.

The company noted that if two games, identical except for ticket dispensing speed, are set 10 feet apart in an arcade, the one with the faster ticket dispenser will gross as much as 30% more than the slower one. Patrons naturally don't like the prospect of playing an exciting game for 20 seconds and then waiting five minutes for tickets, Wedges/Ledges pointed out.

The trend in redemption is toward winning a larger amount of tickets or bonuses. "It is not unusual to play games that have a 500-or-more ticket prize and a 1000- to 5000-ticket bonus," the company explained. "Time is money, and people generally don't play while a game dispenses tickets."

To solve this problem, Wedges/Ledges has engineered a new Turbo ticket dispenser which, in tests, has attained very high dispensing speeds. "We have tested at 6,000-plus per minute," according to Wedges/Ledges' Steve Shoemaker, "and we have not found the absolute fastest. Things get critical the faster they go."

The new design can accommodate a variety of motors. The dispensing rate is determined by the motor's rotational speed, and is affected by voltage. A patent on the design is pending.

The first model slated for rollout is the S-600, which dispenses at a rate of approximately 700 2" or 1,400 half-sized tickets per minute. It can handle National, Globe, Indiana, Guangzhou or any other standard arcade tickets. The speed is switch-selectable. The Turbo dispenser measures 4" wide x 5.5" long x 6" deep, and is expected to retail for under $200.

Shoemaker is looking to license the dispenser, or to produce it as a co-venture. "We have a patent pending on the mechanism," he said. "It is really the first new dispenser in maybe 40 years."

A companion model, the S-1200, has been tested at 800 2" or 1,400 half-sized tickets per minute; and the prototype Big Bass model has tested to 2,000 tickets per minute. Shoemaker reported that most current dispensers work at 130 to 160 tickets per minute.

"Dispensing a prize or bonus rapidly means more income, greater excitement and higher player gratification," Shoemaker emphasized. "This results in much more money in the operator's cashbox."
