MALVERN, PA - USA Technologies has announced its appointment of Matthew W. McConnell as chief operating officer. In this newly created position, McConnell will be responsible for managing the company's day-to-day operations, including delivery of service to its nearly 16,000 customers who represent about  1,000,000 ePort connections. He will report to chief executive Stephen P. Herbert.

McConnell brings more than 30 years' experience to his new duties. He comes to USAT from Comcast NBCUniversal, where he served as senior vice-president and general manager. Prior to that, he had cofounded Troppus Software, an SaaS business providing customer care and technical support software and services to the multiple-systems operator and telecommunications market. This business was sold to EchoStar Corp. in 2011.

Earlier in his career, McConnell held various corporate development positions at NextAction Corp., Level 3 Communications Inc., and America Online Inc. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Denver where he teaches graduate-level courses in leadership and ethics as well as technology strategy and management.
