PONTA GROSSA, Brazil -- Forget hacking, smashing-and-grabbing and card skimming. A gang in Brazil is blowing up ATMs.
According to Brazilian authorities, the group of thieves is responsible for using explosives during at least 11 robberies to get to the cash inside ATMs. Security camera footage released by local authorities shows a gang member using a pry bar to create a hole in an ATM prior to loading and setting off the explosive.
Local law enforcement arrested five members of the gang in June with nearly 100 pounds of explosives following a six-month long investigation. However, other gang members are at large.
