WASHINGTON-- For three years, ScratchDC has been delivering packages of pre-portioned ingredients that customers use to whip together gourmet meals. Now the company is expanding distribution of its meal kits through vending machines to offices, apartment complexes and gyms.
Called TinyGrocery, the payment-activated "vending refrigerator" is stocked daily with the dinner kits, along with ready-to-eat salads, wraps and soups. It's equipped with a tablet that displays the menu, price, nutritional information and allergens for each item. A customer swipes a credit card to unlock the refrigerator door, makes a selection and is charged via a chip on the product's packaging.
Since its launch on June 1, the TinyGrocery has been placed in 10 locations in the Washington area. Check out the full story in the Washington Post.
