JACKSONVILLE, FL -- FIS Cardless Cash has announced a partnership with Payment Alliance International that will eventually offer "cardless" transactions at an estimated 70,000 ATMs across the U.S. Cardless usuage is enabled by FIS's mobile banking app, which turns smartphones into remote controls for ATMs.
Among the largest privately held providers of ATM processing and maintenance services, Louisville, KY-based PAI is expected to offer cardless transactions at gas stations and convenience stores, among other retail locations with off-premise ATMs. The agreement also makes NYCE, an interbank network connecting ATMs around the country, the first national payment network to support smartphone-to-ATM transactions.
FIS's cardless technology, which was launched in January 2015, is used in banks in multiple cities and has processed millions of dollars in ATM transactions. By eliminating the need to insert cards into readers, the technology protects consumers by the reducing risk of fraud from card skimmers and "shoulder surfing."
