THOMASVILLE, GA -- Now available from Mrs. Freshley's are Emoji cupcakes, designed to entertain cupcake-lovers who make use of the popular symbols in their emails and other electronic messages.

The vendable baked goods are crème-filled chocolate cupcakes topped with an eye-catching yellow icing embellished with an emoji ideogram. They are supplied two per 4-oz. package, with a different emoji on each, and are shipped 36 packages per case. Designed primarily for vending machine and convenience store sales, they carry a suggested retail price of $1.25-$1.75.

Emojis originally were developed two decades ago by the Japanese mobile phone industry as a convenience for messaging, which is not a communications medium well suited to forming keyboard-centric emoticons. They gained international popularity when Apple included them as a character set in its iPhone.

Mrs. Freshley's, a Flowers Foods brand, produces a wide variety of single-serve snacks; Emoji cupcakes are the latest addition to its crème-filled cake category. Flowers Foods launched Mrs. Freshley's in 1994, initially targeting the vending industry. The line now includes more than 50 items.
