NEW YORK CITY -- Kind Healthy Snacks said it is reducing added sugar across its original fruit-and-nut bar portfolio.

Starting in late spring, select Kind fruit and nut bars will contain between 15% and 50% less added sugar, compared with the prior recipes. The recipe update will be made to seven flavors.

The reduction swaps sweetened fruit with unsweetened fruit and reduces added sugar in certain ingredients like yogurt coatings. And not unlike all Kind snacks, fruit and nut bars contain no artificial sweeteners and no added sugar alcohols.

The No. 1 ingredient in all Kind fruit-and-nut bars is nuts. The bars have a low glycemic index, which generally help maintain blood sugar levels that are already in the normal range.

Kind is supporting a proposal from the Food and Drug Administration to include added sugars on the Nutrition Facts Panel.
