BRUSSELS -- Now available from the European Vending Association is the association's latest detailed survey of the vending and office coffee service industry in Europe. It highlights current trends observed across the continent.
This is the fifth edition of the EVA's industry market report. It consists of a European summary with an overview of 22 countries, as well as separate, more detailed individual country market reports.
EVA reports that the new study has built on the more sophisticated methodology introduced last year, and incorporates more vending operator interviews. For the first time the study includes Romania, bringing long-awaited data to industry players interested in this developing market.
Overall, the report, which is based on 2016 data, substantiates the trend revealed last year: several mature markets that have seen industry declines have either started to grow again, or at least have remained stable. As a whole the European vending market is growing, with total annual revenue rising to €15.05 billion.
The report incorporates data collected over a 10-year period, including the vending turnover of various countries, field base and sales volumes (vends), and a detailed breakdown of the hot beverage machine composition and type of coffee preparation. It also provides insights into important legislative trends impacting (or likely to impact) the industry, such as "fiscalization" in Hungary and Italy, among other nations.
Other interesting statistics revealed by this latest report include:
» The overall field base (number of machines) is now 4 million, a 1.2% increase over 2015.
» There are around 190 Europeans per vending machine.
» More than 80% of European machines are located in the workplace.
In Europe, vending machines sell in excess of 95 million food and drink items every day. This is a rise of 5.3% over the previous total. Poland and Russia have seen the largest market increases, growing 6.9% and 7%, respectively, in the past five years.
Vending and OCS operators are selling products at higher prices in most markets, particularly hot drinks. The association points out that this is evidence of high-quality preparation equipment and coffee.
European Vending Association members have free access to both the European summary and the individual country profiles, and can request them directly through the EVA secretariat. Information on purchasing the report is available at
