TORONTO -- Coca-Cola Canada said it is reducing the sweetness of its regular Coke, making it consistent with Coke in the U.S. and elsewhere around the world.
The company emphasized that it is not changing its formulation, but reducing the concentration of the syrup in the beverage, resulting in approximately 8% fewer calories.
Coca-Cola Canada said its signature beverage has been more concentrated since it began producing in Canada in 1906. It also said it's launching a smaller 310ml. can, making its mini-cans and bottles more available, and reducing its half-liter package size by 15%.
The company said the calorie initiative will provide consumers with information and resources to lead active, balanced lifestyles.
The new Coke formulation and formats will hit the Canadian market over the coming weeks, as distribution rolls out across the country.
