LAHORE, Pakistan -- The National Bank of Pakistan has claimed the world's highest ATM. The machine, located at the Khunjerab Pass in the Karakoram Mountains, near the Pakistan-China border, is situated at 15,397 feet above sea level, a world record, according to NBP. The previous record was held by the Union Bank of India, which operated an ATM at an elevation of 14,300 feet in Kupup, India, which claims the world's highest golf course.
NBP's new ATM will operate only during daylight hours and receive power from a generator. It has been modified to insure operation in subzero temperatures. No word on the lucky route driver who gets to service the unit.
