CARMEL, NY -- For the second time, a judge has dismissed charges against a Wappingers Falls, NY, man accused of stealing an estimated $500,000 from a company that stocks ATMs. Dean Morgan had worked for the company, which serviced ATMs in convenience stores in New York's Putnam and Westchester counties, as well as in Connecticut's Fairfield County.
County Judge James Reitz dismissed the case against Morgan, who had 15 charges against him, on Nov. 13 for lack of evidence.
"We are pleased that County Court Judge James Reitz saw this case as one based on insufficient evidence," said Morgan's attorney, Thomas Davis. "We have maintained all along that Mr. Mogan was being prosecuted for a crime he did not commit."
According to court records, Morgan initiated the thefts between January 2011 and June 2012, and from January 2013 through September 2013. Morgan was arrested in July for theft of more than half a million dollars, following an arrest last year for stealing nearly $90,000. The earlier charges were dropped, according to reports, on speedy trial grounds.
