The Bahama Mama sausage, which dates back to 1886, originated in the German Village at Columbus, and was honored as Ohio capital's official food in mid-2014.

Incorporating egg, cheese and the iconic Bahama Mama sausage, the Spicy Split sandwich is hand-assembled on a homestyle buttermilk biscuit and wrapped in white butcher paper.

AdvancePierre describes Bahama Mama sausage as "a deliciously spicy German sausage made of choice cuts of pork and beef and infused with natural spices," and reports that it has been one of the top sellers on c-store roller grills since 1986.

"Consumers wake up craving a big breakfast at a big value," said APF president of convenience channels Tony Schroder. "With the famous, savory tastes of Schmidt's Bahama Mama Sausage, our new offering delivers everything consumers crave -- with big flavor."

The Spicy Split sausage sandwich joins two other "big" breakfast items recently added to AdvancePierre's Big Az line, the 2X Sausage & Cheese Biscuit and Biscuit Stacker.

The sandwiches have a 14-day refrigerated shelf life (nine months in the freezer). They can be held refrigerated and reheated with a microwave oven, or sold hot from a sandwich warmer. They're packed in 8-ct. cases.

Headquartered in Cincinnati, AdvancePierre Foods is a nationally recognized manufacturer and marketer of value-added proteins and sandwich products to a broad spectrum of distribution outlets including vending, foodservice, convenience stores and other food retailers.
