CHATTANOOGA, TN -- Five Star Food Service has gotten the new year off to a fast start by celebrating another milestone: the opening of its 600th micromarket. The company said it installed micromarket Nos. 600 and 601 at Meritor Inc.'s production facility in Morristown, TN.

A longtime Five Star vending customer, Meritor is a global supplier of axle, brake and suspension parts to OEMs of, and the aftermarket for, commercial trucks, trailers, buses and coaches, and off-highway machinery. It also does work for defense contractors. The Morristown facility produces more than five million parts annually.

Five Star said Meritor has been eyeing a conversion to micromarkets for some time and saw the new year as the ideal time to make the switch.

Five Star will host an all-day, grand-opening celebration on Jan. 31, which will include brief tutorials on how to use the self-checkout market for Meritor employees. Also, the first 600 employees will enjoy complimentary Five Star coffee, PepsiCo Aquafina bottled water and Mrs. Freshley's donuts.

To encourage early market participation and adoption, Five Star is running a celebratory giveaway promotion that will award $600 in prizes to employees for their usage.

Five Star said it has also kicked off the new year deploying enhanced micromarket designs and cabinetry and reinvigorated branding, along with new technologies and a foray into e-commerce.

Founded in 1993 and based in Chattanooga, TN, Five Star Food Service says it's one of the largest privately held vending operations in the United States. Five Star became a Canteen franchise in 2008.
