Swarm Temp Tightens Cold-Food Temperature Control For Retail Vending And Micromarket Coolers

LAS VEGAS -- Making its debut today at the National Automatic Merchandising Association's 2017 OneShow here is a versatile temperature monitor designed to simplify the task of safely transporting, holding and serving food. Called Swarm Temp, it's described as the only product that monitors three major elements of the "cold chain" (retail vending and micromarket coolers, distribution center walk-ins and refrigerated transportation).

In use, the system can prevent food safety lockouts by alerting the operator before the lockout occurs. It also logs, stores and reports temperature data for local board of health compliance, including the detailed recordkeeping procedures needed for hazard analysis critical control points (HACCP) programs.

The battery-operated Swarm Temp sensor wirelessly sends temperature data to the Cloud and is easy to install without the need to drill into coolers.

Sensor Swarm president Dale Szymborski pointed out that, in the United States, premium food products are coming into the vending market with shorter shelf-life and greater sensitivity to temperature, in a market that's exhibiting a much different level of demand.

"Consumers purchase food under the presumption that food is safe," he pointed out. "It only takes one foodborne illness to show up on social media for a food operator's reputation to falter. With proper temperature monitoring, foodborne illnesses can be preventable.

"Food operators cannot afford a Chipotle food safety problem," Szymborski emphasized. "SwarmTemp provides proof that food is safe, and alerts where the cold chain is breaking down.

SwarmTemp gives operators data they need to change workflows, service faulty equipment and implement better training to improve food safety, he explained.

SwarmTemp is slated to ship in May. Pricing will start at $35 per sensor, with a low-cost subscription for access to data, real-time email or text alerts, unlimited access via app/host, and HACCP reports.

The name "Sensor Swarm" was inspired by the behavior of "swarms" of organisms that exhibit a distributed intelligence far exceeding the capabilities of any individual. The company is headquartered in Minneapolis; its owners have served the vending industry for more than 15 years.
