Royal Cup Coffee & Tea, Neverthirst, clean water charity BIRMINGHAM, AL -- Can a cup of coffee change the world? Royal Cup Coffee & Tea, a roaster and office coffee service operator based here, thinks so and has partnered with international nonprofit Neverthirst to help bring clean water to underserved populations.

According to the World Health Organization, more than 3.4 million people die every year as a result of unclean drinking water. That's more deaths than AIDS, malaria and measles combined.

Howard Chapman, president of Royal Cup's office beverage division, said his company wants to help slash those numbers. "We've been able to get to know Neverthirst very well. The fact that they've completed 5,800 projects since launching in 2008 was meaningful to us, and our employees are committed to making this a long-term partnership," he said.

Royal Cup's Roar line includes coffee pods and whole bean coffees. For every serving of Roar coffee sold, 2¢ will benefit Neverthirst and help people around the world get access to clean drinking water.

Royal Cup's goal is to build wells and provide water filters in Sudan, South Sudan, Nepal, Cambodia, Chad and India, and the company is setting lofty sales targets to make it happen. Chapman said that based on current Roar volume, expectations are for the partnership to generate six figures for Neverthirst in its first year.

"The great thing about this initiative is that people don't have to change anything they're already doing. They just have to keep drinking coffee and they'll be making a difference," said Royal Cup marketing manager Michael Hogue.
