LAI"SINGAPORE -- LAI Games reports that it has opened a second research and development studio to accelerate new product development. It's based in Brisbane (Queensland), Australia, on that continent's populous east coast.

According to LAI international product manager Chris McGrath, Australia was chosen as the site for the new facility because the nation offers a large pool of talented game and graphic designers, and is demographically aligned with many of LAI's international market areas.

Originally established as a games operation in Australia, LAI expanded into manufacturing and international distribution as well as family entertainment center operations throughout Southeast Asia, and now maintains production facilities in Jakarta, Indonesia. Its primary R&D unit has its design and development facilities in Jakarta. LAI's sales and service operations are based in Singapore. The company maintains U.S. offices in Dallas. It also is the parent company of Embed Card Systems.

LAI Games chief executive Alan Freimuth noted that continual innovation drives the business, and operators continually demand new games to maintain public interest. "By expanding our R&D capabilities, we will increase the odds of bringing more hit products like Lighthouse, Stacker and Snapshot to market," he predicted.
