NEW YORK CITY -- A new report from the National Coffee Association finds that single-cup brewing systems are making inroads with consumers.

Awareness of single-cup brewing systems has increased to 73% in 2011 from 55% in 2007, according to the report. Ownership of the brewers has jumped to 7% of consumers in 2011 from just 1% when the questions was introduced in the 2005 study. Those who have bought a system within the past six months grew to 35% this year from 29% in 2007.

Perceptions of single-cup systems are becoming more favorable, the coffee study suggests. Those who rated the systems as excellent or very good jumped to 45% this year from 26% in 2007. Nearly half (46%) of consumers polled agreed that "I have heard positive comments about this brewer from friends and family," up from 33% in 2007.
