NILES, IL -- About 80 years ago, a young man who would become a coin-op legend wandered into a penny arcade machine company called Genco "just to get out of the rain," as he tells it; he stayed to revolutionize the pinball industry. On Dec. 26, 2011, Steve Kordek turned 100 years old.

On Friday, Jan. 20, friends and admirers of Kordek will celebrate his remarkable life at a luncheon party.

The affair is being hosted by Larry DeMar of Leading Edge Design. It will take place at the Lone Tree Manor at 7730 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Niles, IL, at 11:30 a.m. Contact Larry at (847) 205-0700 to RSVP.

Besides being one of the nicest guys in the industry, Kordek is also one of its giants of invention. His 1947 game, Triple Action, was the first pinball machine to incorporate just two flippers at the bottom of the playfield.

VT offers its heartiest congratulations to "Gentleman Steve" Kordek.
