WATERBURY, VT -- Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is offering a limited-edition Colombia Geisha Special Reserve in K-Cup packs for its Keurig brewers while supplies last.

Known for its sweet, citrus-like flavor profile, the Geisha varietal is highly sought after by bidders in auctions, often fetching high prices because of its intricate harvesting process. The Geisha portion packs contain more coffee than traditional K-Cups to "ensure that the complex subtle flavors are expressed in an especially rich, full-bodied cup of coffee," according to Green Mountain.

Colombia Geisha is grown on the Finca Cerro Azul farm in Valle del Cauca, Colombia, where high altitudes, spring-like temperatures and consistent humidity levels create a microclimate in which the variety thrives. The coffee is handpicked every eight days using a highly selective process. Once harvested, every step of processing, milling and drying is carefully controlled and regulated to constantly monitor the coffee's sugar levels and preserve its signature sweet, citrus notes.

Finca Cerro Azul is reportedly the first farm in Colombia to export the Geisha varietal, which won second place in the 2012 Specialty Coffee Association of America Awards, for Coffee of the Year.

Green Mountain says its special reserve coffees, offered four times a year, are made from beans that are among the rarest in the world.
