California Classics

IRVINE, CA  -- Classic Foods Inc. is rolling out a line of snacks formulated to meet the nutritional guidelines set by most school districts across the country. Rice-and corn-based California Classics include cheese balls, hot and crunchy cheese balls, caramel crunch and apple pie crunch. They're available in 1.5-oz. bags for vending machines.

California Classics are said to be high in fiber and low in fat. They provide 2.1 servings of grain/bread requirements set by the School Nutrition Standards Act. They are also gluten-free and contain no cholesterol, preservatives, trans fat, MSG, high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors or colors.

"We created snacks that are a healthier alternative to popular snacks, but still satisfy children's cravings," said Classic Foods director of innovation Sam Kilgore. "There's no point in making a healthy snack for children if they won't want to eat it. California Classics are genuinely tasty snacks that just happen to be quite a bit healthier."

Classic Foods officially entered the vending channel with its signature Kettle Classics chips last month. | SEE STORY
