NEW YORK CITY -- Columbia University's Manhattanville campus plans to open a fast-casual food hall next summer, according to a Wall Street Journal article that points to a rise in the trend of colleges and universities moving away from traditional campus food courts.

The article also cites other universities across the nation have replaced former food court occupied by just a few national fast-food chains that required customized space with a larger number of independent operators and a more diverse range of offerings to suit contemporary tastes and dietary demands.
