CINCINNATI -- Sunny Delight Beverages Co. has added a 5.5-fl.oz. Veryfine juice can for the vending and foodservice channels. The company developed the new size to meet growing requests for a smaller can from office coffee service customers and elementary schools complying with USDA's "U.S. Healthier Schools Challenge" guidelines, as well as the healthcare market.

"Repeatedly, we heard our operators tell us that Veryfine was the preferred juice but they needed a smaller, vendible size to meet their consumers' needs," said Jud Skinner, Sunny Delight's national sales manager for foodservice and vending. Sunny Delight determined that a 5.5-fl.oz. can was the solution. It is available in all-natural apple, orange and grape juices and cranberry cocktail.

Veryfine's single-serve juices and drinks come in 13 flavors, including 100% juice fruit punch, twisted cherry, krazy kiwi and apple strawberry, aimed primarily at kids. Package sizes include 5.5- and 11.5-fl.oz. cans and 10- and 16-fl.oz. plastic bottles.

Veryfine has a long history of innovation since its 1865 inception. In the 1980s, it was the first brand to produce a hot-fill plastic package for 100% juices. It also pioneered school juice vending and the single-serve juice category in convenience stores during the '80s.

Cincinnatti-based Sunny Delight acquired Veryfine and Fruit2O flavored waters from Kraft Foods in 2007. It also markets Sunny D citrus punch, Fruit Simple fruit smoothies, Bossa Nova superfruit beverages and Elations dietary supplement for joint health.
