VendScreen Pilot Yields 85% Sales Lift, Nine-Month ROI

PORTLAND, OR -- VendScreen Inc. is sharing some data collected during a nine-month pilot conducted with an international snack foods manufacturer and a Northeast vending operation. One result showed machine vends equipped with VendScreen technology increased an average of 85%, and sales of the manufacturer-branded products doubled, according to officials.

The pilot program sought to measure the impact of upgrading vending machines with VendScreen payment touchscreen devices and additional product facings of cookies, candy and gum. Additional revenue generated during the first nine months of manufacturer-specific product sales completely offset the device hardware investment costs, the manufacturer said.

The test involved dozens of machines in public, institutional and B&I locations. They were all identified as "mid-level" machines, performing at the 50th to 75th percentile in relation to the rest of the operator's routes. One-quarter of the vending machines had existing cashless devices that were replaced with VendScreen's hardware.

"The pilot results validated our belief that the value of the VendScreen platform extends beyond consumers and operators," said VendScreen product manager Stephen Pasker. "CPG manufacturers can now get insight into consumer behavior at the machine and can even influence that behavior."

The program also provided the participating CPG manufacturer access to point-of-sale data that was previously unavailable for vending purchases. The data provided insights regarding which types of locations were popular for particular snacks and when they were most often purchased.

"We now have the ability to capture and share consumer purchase behavior and transaction details about particular products across all machines," said VendScreen chief executive David Grano. "Our ability to provide independent compliance verification of sales activity truly changes the game for CPG manufacturers exploring vending promotions."
