MILAN, Italy -- Venditalia 2010, the Italian vending industry trade show, is set for the Fieramilanocity fairgrounds from April 28 through May 1. It is the seventh staging of the increasingly popular event, which has enjoyed steady growth as its international stature has grown.

The show's organizers observe that its dates position it at the beginning of the economic recovery. "There's no challenge without a crisis," said show chairman Marco Monaco of Gruppo Argenta (Modena). "This year will certainly prove useful in rethinking our business strategies, finding and promoting new products."

Venditalia Servizi Srl, which manages the show, was formed in 1997 by the leaders of the two trade groups that had combined into the national vending association, CONFIDA, two years earlier. It reported that the 2008 presentation of the show attracted 269 exhibitors and more than 14,000 professional visitors, an attendance increase of about 20% over the 2006 total. Of these, 49% came from countries other than Italy, demonstrating the show's international appeal.

The first modern Italian vending convention, MIDA (Mostra Italiana della Distribuzione Automatica), was held in Genoa as part of the Salone Internazionale del Caffè. It moved to Milan in 1985. Venditalia was launched in Genoa in 1998, and became an acknowledged international trade fair in 2004. It returned to Milan in 2006.
