Underscoring the many reasons for vending, micromarket and amusement operators to accepting every form of payment consumers have in their pockets is a Sept. 9 USA Today article titled "Should you ditch your cash? A growing number of cities say no way."

It cites the move by retailers to speed transactions and curb theft by cutting out cash and the pushback by lawmakers across a growing number of cities and states to pass legislation that prohibits retailers from refusing to accept cash, a policy they say is unfair to millions of unbanked consumers.

And, the article points out, cash isn't king to all consumers, as many are concerned that cashless payments can infringe on their privacy.
