MALVERN, PA -- U.S. Patent 8,596,529 covers an invention that relates to a system that puts into action a protocol for interfacing a payment module and computing platform. Through the interface, the computer can elect to control a vending transaction cycle and to monitor the payment module, according to the patent abstract.

The patent, titled Interactive Interface Effectuated Vending, is the 87th for USA Technologies, which specializes in cashless payment and M2M telemetry products for the self-serve retail industries. EPort is its flagship product for vending.

"Through this patent and others, USAT has accumulated what we believe is a meaningful portfolio of intellectual property around, among other things, cashless payment, remote diagnostics and interactive transaction capabilities in a vending machine -- one of the largest segments of the self-serve retail market that remains in the early stages of cashless adoption," said USA Technologies chairman and chief executive Stephen P. Herbert.
