Upstate Networks Debuts Latest MDP2PC Vender-Computer Interface

UTICA, NY -- New from Upstate Networks is the ninth version of its flagship product, the MDB2PC (Multi-Drop Bus-to-PC) interface board. Revision 9 is designed to deliver more advanced capabilities from a smaller package. The new board measures only 2.5" x 2.25".

The MDB2PC is a microprocessor-controlled hardware interface with embedded firmware. It is used to convert internal vender communications traveling on the Multi-Drop Bus into serial communications under the familiar RS-232 protocol. The signals then can be sent to and received from an industry-standard personal computer through a serial port. The software backbone of the Rev. 9 model remains the proven MDBLab 2.0, developed to deliver greater speed and reliability. It was launched in 2011.

The MDB protocol has become standard for vending payment systems, including coin mechanisms and changers, bill validators and cashless payment terminals. It also allows the vending machine controller to communicate with other components, such as a refrigeration system or an adjacent dispensing module.

Upstate Networks reports that the Rev. 9 model continues to make the voltage conversions necessary to open these exchanges of information, and to relieve the PC of polling requirements. This permits the computer to perform other tasks.
