SUTTON, England -- Tomy Europe, a leading toymaker based here, has acquired Tomy Yujin Europe, which supplies the novelty vending market, from Yujin Japan and will rename it Gacha International. The agreement will enable the two companies to take advantage of shared operating costs and distribution channels.

A Tomy Europe official told VT that Gacha International would continue to "operate as normal," but share Tomy Europe's financial resources and facilities.

"We are delighted to have acquired Tomy Yujin Europe," said Tomy Europe chief executive Robert Mann. "Tomy Europe will provide the ideal platform to extend the distribution channels for the increasing ranges of licensed gift items, uniting the Gacha brand with the heritage and pedigree of the globally identifiable Tomy brand."

The new Gacha International division will concentrate on expanding both vending and gift offerings across new territories, including Canada and South America. Gacha is the name of Tomy's popular capsule vending machine.

In December, Tomy Yujin Corp. (Newport Beach, CA) announced plans to shut down its U.S. vending operations, which will be effective on Feb. 28. To date, new information regarding vending activity in the U.S. has not been revealed.
