coin-op news, NDA Team Dart, soft-tip darts, electronic dartboard LAS VEGAS -- More than 2,600 coin-op athletes from five countries competed in the AMOA-National Dart Association's 30th anniversary soft-tip dart tournament. This year's milestone Team Dart once again was held at Bally's Las Vegas. The event, which ran from May 1 to 9, awarded more than 2,100 prizes to 1,100 competitors of all skill levels.

NDA said that Team Dart is unique compared to other tournaments in that skill levels range from beginners to masters. Participants are placed in a classification according to their individual or team's skill rating. Up to 18 levels in each event effectively match players of similar skill.

To qualify for Team Dart entry, a competitor must be sanctioned by NDA and play at least 96 league games in a specified period for an NDA-member operator company. This game requirement is the main incentive to increase local league play in locations served by professional vending companies, NDA explained. This year, 144 operating companies entered players in the Team Dart tournament.

Team Dart is held annually at Bally's, right in the center of the Las Vegas strip. With more than 300 electronic dartboards spread across 85,000 square feet of meeting space, it is one of the largest soft-tip competitions in the world.

During 2015's nine-day tournament, contestants had the option of participating in as many as 12 events. Similar to last year, there were seven main events in the singles category, nine in the doubles grouping and four in the triples.

The International Challenge at this year's Team Dart hosted teams from Canada, France, Germany and Spain, as well as the United States. They competed on May 6 to win, among other things, "international bragging rights" for the coming year. The U.S. men's team took first place in a duel with Germany, and the U.S. women's team triumphed over Germany.

NDA's Top Gun awards went to the best shooters in each level in Team Cricket and Team 501, with a minimum of 24 games played during the tournament. Twelve players took home the honor, including masters Jamie Nunez Cortes, entered by Vifico-ADEA (Malaga, Spain), and Eric Blackledge, entered by J&J Ventures Amusements (Valley Park, MO).

Team Dart 2016 will return to Bally's Las Vegas from April 22 to 27. It will feature a shorter schedule to accommodate more players. Visit for updates.
