DRAPER, UT --Swire Coca-Cola USA said it has acquired Coca-Cola Co.'s production center in Tempe, AZ, as part of Coca-Cola's refranchising process. Swire's operation of the production facility commenced Aug. 25.

The addition of the Tempe production center builds on Swire Coca-Cola's growing footprint in the U.S. The Utah-based company now operates in 13 western states. Prior to this purchase, Swire operated four production facilities. This deal increases its workforce by 160 employees.

The Tempe production center is one of the largest for Coca-Cola products in the U.S. The plant operates multiple lines and manufactures almost 40 million cases of beverages annually.

Swire Coca-Cola USA president and chief executive Jack Pelo said having another manufacturing operation in the company's franchise territory will allow it more control and further elevate its customer service capabilities. Pelo said the bottler has quadrupled in size over the past three years.

Swire Coca-Cola USA is a part of the beverages division for Swire Pacific Ltd. It produces, sells and distributes Coca-Cola and other beverages, including more than 300 brands, in 13 states (Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada and New Mexico, along with Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming).
