MELROSE PARK, IL -- Celebrated game designer Greg Freres has joined Stern Pinball Inc., according to an announcement by company founder, chairman and chief executive Gary Stern.

Freres, a 34-year veteran of the coin machine industry, is a member of the Pinball Expo Hall of Fame, and has created artwork for and helped to design more than 30 pinball, video and arcade games. Among his most recent works is the "Whoa Nellie! Big Juicy Melons" custom flipper game. His portfolio also includes Medieval Madness, Revenge from Mars, Fathom, Elvira and the Party Monsters, and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Freres, who holds a degree in Studio Art, went to work as an artist, designer and art manager for Bally Manufacturing Corp., where he served from 1978 until 2008, when he became an independent artist.

Stern Pinball, which still describes itself as "the only maker of full-size, arcade-quality pinball games on the planet," has released more than a dozen licensed titles in recent years, including X-Men, AC/DC, Transformers, Avatar, The Rolling Stones, Iron Man and Tron.
